HASSRA is an organisation that provides sports and leisure opportunities for employees and retired staff of the Department of Health (DH), Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and their agencies and contractors. For the past few years, HASSRA have come to Warwick University for their annual Festival that involves having a go at many different activities including quizzes, crafts and lots of sports.
This year, many HASSRA members tried their hand at archery. Although there were a couple of experienced archers among the group, most were complete beginners.
HASSRA members from all over the country attended, including London, Scotland, Wales, Midlands, Yorkshire and Flyde. The warm and sunny weather from the past few weeks continued and there were blue skies all day.
As well as providing all the equipment for the event, UWAC also coached those who had never done any shooting before, as well as those who needed some reminders.
The event consisted of a 'round-robin' tournament in the morning, in which each contestant shoots against all others in turn. This served as a ranking round for the Head to Head matches in the afternoon.
At the end of a fun day, certificates and medals were given out and some HASSRA members even expressed an interest in continuing with archery in the future! We hope that HASSRA will continue to hold their Festival at the University in the coming years and that UWAC can continue to be involved in this outreach event.
