Tom Hall got to the bronze medal match but lost to Oxford’s Alex Smith. Maddie Meatyard achieved bronze in her category and Indigo Griffith, Tim Jackson, and Aurelien Servatius all managed to get into the top 8 of their respective categories too.
UWAC also achieved success for both the novice and experienced teams at the BUTTS outdoor championships, with a gold and silver medal for each respective team. The novice team consisted of Toby Ross (655), Tim Jackson (639), Aurelien Servatius (633) and Indigo Griffith (625). Toby Ross also achieved bronze in gents novice recurve category. Here is a description of the day from Toby:
BUTTS Outdoors was the first serious outdoor competition any of the novices had faced so we were all a little nervous, but having done enough competitions before we were mainly just excited. Another early start saw us arrive at the competition with plenty of time to set up our bows, the tent shelters and to get a feel for where we would be shooting. The weather during the competition ranged from being cold and windy to being cold, wet and windy, but we didn’t let this dampen our spirits and we enjoyed shooting outdoors. Our efforts paid off with the Novice team finishing in first place meaning we all got nice, shiny medals and a trophy to add to the collection One Boat Race and All-You-Can-Eat meal later we were on the way back home after a great days shooting, ready to start preparation for the next big outdoor competition, BUCS Outdoors.” Toby Ross
The experienced team came second overall during the day with top scorer Tom Hall (842) as well as Maddie Meatyard (810), Jorge Lindley (788), and Chris Guerin (615). Tom and Maddie also both achieved silver in their individual categories, where Maddie edged out Oxford’s Klara Fay on number of golds having both scored 810 overall.
Matthew Dale also achieved Gold in the gents experienced compound category, setting a new BUTTS league and all unis St George record of 948 points of a possible 972. Jasmine Grosso bested Trent’s Octavia Quinn to get gold for the ladies barebow, too. Overall, both BUTTS indoor and outdoor championships were a great success for UWAC and its members and we look forward to the BUCS, the largest outdoor event of the year, in a few weeks time.
