The 12th of November 2017 saw the return of the BUTTS League for Warwick archers shooting at Leg 1, hosted this year by Nottingham Trent.
Following what experienced archer Tom Hall has described as UWAC’s "absolute domination" in the first round of the E-league, hopes were high as the team sought to maintain their success so far this indoor season. And maintain it they did, smashing their way into first place with a massive score of 2316, a new BUTTS team club record and nearly 80 points ahead of second place Nottingham.
Newcomer to the club William Pike spearheaded the team with an impressive score of 593, followed by Tom Hall (586), Samuel Armstrong (570) and Enrik Nako (567).
Christopher Woodgate narrowly missed out on a team spot with a score of 562, but joined them in making a clean sweep of the Gents Recurve category, securing positions 1 through 5. Our ladies also performed well, with Hannah Burnage (559) and Megan Purchase (433) taking bronze in Ladies Recurve and Barebow categories, respectively. A special mention goes to Daniёl Prinsloo, who despite missing out on a podium position was the highest scoring Gent Barebow archer of the day.
Our Novice Team, consisting of Emma Simpson (356), James Dilley (317), Wallace Ng (314) and Bethany Moreing (222) finished in 4th place with a total score of 1209 – which leaves plenty of room for improvement! In addition to being the highest scoring Warwick novice, Emma Simpson successfully topped the Novice Lady Barebow category.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, and good luck to those of you shooting at Leg 2 in Loughborough this weekend!
